Description

Now that Christmas, New Year, and year-end vacations are coming to an end, it is time to get back to your day-to-day work routine. After the holiday's people usually find it difficult to get back to their pre-holiday routine.

So how do we avoid the Holiday blues? Holiday blues as the name suggests is a feeling that occurs after days of celebration, spending time with family, and relaxation during the holiday season.

Here are a few tips on how to get through your holiday blues and get back to your work routine:

PLAN YOUR DAY

Make a list! A to-do list for the day has served as an excellent way to identify what tasks absolutely must get done. What tasks were left pending before the holidays began? Rank tasks according to the importance and what must be done first.

When you have a plan for your day, it becomes easier to get back on track when your mind goes back to holiday mode. Preferably, evade looking at emails until you have a clear list of priorities for the day.

RECONNECT WITH THE TEAM

Take time to reconnect with your team. Get to know how everyone spent their holidays and where they are at mentally for the year. Having the team list out different goals that they have for the year and planning out how you see the year going as a team will aid in boosting your desire to get back into your work routine.

Engaging with your team also allows you to catch up on anything important that happened while you were away, and get you updated on any urgent projects or deadlines.

DON’T OVERDO IT

Lastly, after any time off, it is easy to overwork in order to get back into the mix quickly and catch up on missed work.

However, this can lead to added stress and it will most likely impact your productivity in a negative manner in the long-term even if you have the feeling that you are doing more in the short term.

Remember that holidays are a significant part of a work-life balance. As such, any feeling of guilt about taking time off needs to be reduced and you should avoid overworking when coming back to keep the positive energy collected during your holidays as long as possible.
