Our client, a leading company in the construction and
building materials industry, is seeking a Tax Officer to oversee all
tax-related activities within the organization. This role ensures compliance
with local tax laws and regulations, manages audits with the Tanzania Revenue
Authority (TRA), optimizes tax efficiency, and mitigates tax risks. The Tax
Officer will also provide advisory services on tax matters and collaborate with
internal and external stakeholders to enhance compliance and operational
efficiency.
Responsibilities
- Per Tanzanian tax laws, prepare and submit all statutory tax returns, including VAT, income tax, PAYE, and withholding tax.
- Maintain
accurate tax records and ensure timely updates of all tax filings.
- Prepare
periodic and annual tax reports for management and regulatory authorities.
- Act as the primary point of contact during TRA audits.
- Coordinate with auditors, prepare required documentation, and address audit inquiries.
- Conduct internal tax reviews to identify and mitigate compliance risks before audits.
- Analyze tax regulations and their impact on business operations.
- Advise management on tax-saving strategies and compliance best practices.
- Guide on the tax implications of major business transactions, including acquisitions and expansions.
- Address daily tax-related queries from internal stakeholders.
- Ensure correct tax coding and classification of transactions to facilitate accurate reporting.
- Manage all tax-related correspondence with external advisors, auditors, and authorities.
- Identify potential tax risks and implement mitigation strategies.
- Develop and maintain tax policies and procedures to ensure regulatory compliance.
- Conduct periodic reviews to improve tax processes and ensure accuracy.
- Provide training and support to finance team members on tax-related matters.
- Keep up to date with changes in Tanzanian tax laws and communicate updates to relevant stakeholders.
- Collaborate with the financial planning and analysis (FP&A) and Finance Operations teams for accurate tax recording.
- Work closely with Finance Operations to ensure correct tax treatment of financial transactions.
- Verify and validate tax implications within the ERP system to maintain financial data integrity.
