Job Summary:
Our client is seeking an Accounts Assistant to join their Tax Department. The ideal candidate will prepare and manage tax-related documentation, ensure compliance with tax regulations, and assist in various accounting tasks. This role demands a keen eye for detail, strong organizational skills, and a foundational understanding of tax laws and accounting principles established by the Tanzania Revenue Authority.
Responsibilities:
- Assist in the preparation and filing of various tax returns weekly, monthly,
quarterly, half-yearly and yearly (e.g., PAYE/SDL, WHT on all aspects, VAT,
provisional tax etc.).
- Ensure all tax documents are accurately prepared and submitted on time.
- Maintain and organize tax records, receipts, and other relevant
documentation.
- Stay updated with current tax regulations and changes in tax laws.
- Assist in researching tax issues and providing summaries for the
accounts team.
- Ensure compliance with local, and international tax regulations where
required.
- Support in preparing financial statements and reports related to tax activities.
- Assist in the reconciliation of tax accounts and resolve any discrepancies.
- Aid in the preparation of quarterly and annual tax provision calculations.
- Handle correspondence with tax authorities and other relevant bodies.
- Schedule and coordinate meetings, appointments, and deadlines for the tax
team.
- Assist with administrative tasks such as filing, data entry, and maintaining tax
files.
- Prepare documentation and support the tax team during internal and external
audits.
- Assist in responding to tax audits and inquiries from tax authorities.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- Relevant certifications or courses in taxation are a plus.
- Minimum of 3-4 years of experience in an accounting or tax-related role.
- Experience with tax preparation and filing processes.
- Previous experience working in an audit firm will be an added benefit.
- Proficiency in accounting software and Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, etc.).
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlinesBasic understanding of tax laws and regulations.
- Ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
- High level of integrity and professionalism.Office environment with occasional requirements to work overtime during peak tax
reporting periods/audits.
