Job Purpose:

The Agent (Consultant) will serve as the local liaison between the refinery and gold miners in Chunya, Mbeya. The consultant will identify, engage, and build trusted relationships with miners and mining groups to facilitate the supply of gold to the refinery, ensuring compliance with ethical sourcing standards. The role requires someone with deep local knowledge, strong communication skills, and the ability to operate independently.

Key Responsibilities:

• Identify active gold miners, cooperatives, and suppliers within Chunya and surrounding areas.
  
• Promote the refinery’s buying standards, pricing model, and services to local miners.
  
• Assist in onboarding miners and guiding them through the refinery’s gold supply process.
  
• Maintain strong, positive relationships with miners to foster long-term partnerships.
  
• Act as the key point of contact for miners, addressing inquiries and concerns promptly.
  
• Regularly visit mining sites to ensure suppliers follow responsible and safe practices.
  
• Support compliance and due diligence efforts in line with refinery policies and relevant regulations.
  
• Facilitate negotiations between miners and the refinery on volumes, prices, and terms.
  
• Ensure transparency and trust throughout the transaction process.
  
• Provide weekly/monthly reports on sourcing activities, miner feedback, and potential opportunities or risks.
  
• Coordinate with the Mining Relationship Manager and head office teams to ensure seamless communication.
  

Requirements

• Experience working within or around mining communities.
  
• Good understanding of the local gold mining landscape (especially artisanal and small-scale mining).
  
• Strong reputation and network within the mining community is a major advantage.
  
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  
• Fluent in Swahili; knowledge of local dialects is a plus.
  
• Willingness to travel and spend time in remote mining sites.
